February was a month full of movement, meaningful connections, an inspiring event, and the beginning of a new big adventure for Miss Dynamite.
I am proud to continue sharing my journey and the steps I take toward becoming the best version of myself. This process takes time and unfolds in many different shapes and waves. Becoming the best version of oneself is not about a single dimension but rather a collective evolution of many aspects including professional, personal and spiritual growth.
While this article focuses mainly on the professional side of the journey, I also want to acknowledge that mental health and overall well being are essential pillars that allow us to accomplish everything else.
The main event of February was my official entry into a new role and the beginning of a new position with a company I have long dreamed of joining, Orica, a leading global supplier of commercial explosives, blasting systems and mining chemicals.
This opportunity truly feels like a dream coming true. Being able to learn and grow alongside a team of professionals who provide advanced and unique blasting solutions is incredibly exciting. I will share more details about my role in a future entry since I am currently in training and still assimilating a large amount of new knowledge. What I can say is that I feel genuinely happy and more determined than ever.
Another highlight of the month was attending the event organized by the International Society of Explosives Engineers Eastern Canada Chapter. For once I did not have to travel the globe to attend since it was happening right here in my home city, Montreal.
The feeling of entering a room filled with passionate people from the industry was powerful. Students, professionals, researchers and company leaders were all gathered with a common goal. Despite our different roles we all share the same priority which is making operations safer while maintaining productivity.
The conferences were filled with valuable information, research results, technical tools and lessons learned from previous projects. Some case studies showed great success and others presented challenges that provided the opportunity to analyze and strengthen safety culture and operational protocols. Events like these remind me that professional gatherings are both a responsibility and a privilege. They allow us to learn, reflect and connect with remarkable human beings.
I would like to highlight two people I had the opportunity to meet who left a strong impression on me.
The first is Blessing Taiwo, an accomplished mining professional with an impressive academic and research background. His work focuses on mine optimization, blast design, fragmentation analysis using WipFrag software, geotechnical data analysis, mine safety and engineering research.
Beyond his technical expertise, what makes Blessing particularly inspiring is his dedication to sharing knowledge. He has built a professional community of more than twenty thousand followers who actively engage with his educational content and technical insights. I have personally followed his work since I first entered the industry, and he has been a constant source of inspiration for me.
Meeting him in person was truly a privilege. I had the opportunity to exchange ideas with him, receive advice and attend his passionate presentation about fragmentation. If you are interested in drilling and blasting, I strongly encourage you to follow his work and read some of his articles. Thank you, Blessing, for your generosity, your leadership and your commitment to sharing knowledge with the mining community.
The second person I would like to mention is Jemma Yingjie, Director of Black Diamond Drilling Tools, a company based in Northern Ontario that specializes in the research, development and manufacturing of rock drilling tools and pneumatic tools for the mining and drilling industries. The company operates internationally and supports sectors such as mineral exploration, mining, water well drilling and geotechnical drilling.
For those who know me, you already understand that two things hold a special place in my heart. Blasting and China. Perhaps that is why I connected so naturally with Jemma. She is a Chinese Canadian executive in the drilling industry with a fascinating background. Like me, she originally comes from the arts and social sciences world and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with French and Spanish from the University of Toronto.
I deeply admire her trajectory, her leadership and her passion for the industry. I even made a promise to her that one day I will visit China when she is there. Today I officially declare that this will become one of my personal projects for 2027.
Jemma it was truly an honor meeting you. I believe this is only the beginning of a great friendship and many future conversations about drilling, blasting and the global mining industry.
So that was February. A month filled with meaningful connections, intellectual nourishment and exciting new challenges.
This is me being my own detonator, building my own wall, channeling my energy and living both my dream and my present.
Nunc est momentum.

MISS DYNAMITE INSIGHT
Safety is not what happens during a blast.
It is what happens long before it.
